Delhi govt suspends subsidy on Tata Nexon EV

Delhi govt is providing subsidy on the Electric Vehicles sold in the capital. This scheme is supposed to promote the electric vehicle in the capital. However, Delhi govt has suspended the subsidy on Tata Nexon EV after multiple customers complained about its “sub-standard” range performance.

Tata Nexon EV is the most affordable electric car in the country. It is priced at INR 13.99 – 16.39 Lakhs ex-showroom Delhi. Nexon EV is powered by a 30.2kWh battery that produces 127bhp of maximum power and a peak torque of 245Nm. It can be charged from 0 to 80% in just a hour by a fast charger. Nexon EV has an ARAI claimed range of 312km in single charge.

Kailash Gahlot, Delhi transport minister, posted on twitter that: “The Delhi government has decided to suspend subsidy on an EV car model, pending the final report of a Committee, due to complaints by multiple users of sub-standard range performance. We are committed to support EVs, but not at the cost of trust & confidence of citizens in claims by manufacturers.”

Last month a show cause notice was also issued to Tata Motors by the transport ministry after a customer complained about the sub-standard range performance. The customer claimed that the Nexon EV is only giving a range of 200kms on a single charge as against the ARAI-claimed range of 312kms.
