Bajaj Pulsar NS 200 BS6 – Price, Specification, Features and Performance Review!

ns 200 bs6

Bajaj Pulsar NS 200 BS6 is one of the most powerful bike in its price segment!

But its the year 2021 now and people are looking for much more than only performance.

Is it still the best 200cc bike out there?

Let us find out the answer to this question!

2012 was the year when Bajaj Pulsar NS 200 was first launched in the country. And BOY! It was a mean looking futuristic bike that offered a mean performance as well.

If you remember, Pulsar 200 NS was the one to start the 200 cc naked bike segment in India. And it not only made its own fan following but also strengthened the strong foothold that Bajaj had in the 150cc, 180cc, and 220cc segments.

Back in those days you could spot a Pulsar everywhere on the road.

And it would be right to say that Pulsar mania took over the people. And if you remember, there was one show that used to run on MTv, named “Pulsar STUNTMANIA”. Where people used to perform stunts on Pulsar bikes. It was a big hit at that time.

But BUt BUT! The Pulsar NS200 had its own share of ups and downs.

Sadly Bajaj Discontinued the NS 200 back in 2015.

But almost after 2 years Bajaj realized its mistake and relaunched the Pulsar NS 200 in 2017 with improved performance.

And now it’s been almost a decade since the 200 NS was first launched in the country.

And now the Pulsar NS 200 BS6 is HERE! Needless to say the BS6 means that the bike’s engine is now BS6 compliant.

And we are here to tell you if the NS 200 BS6 carries the same charm after all these years.

In this article we tell you each and everything that you need to know about Bajaj Pulsar NS 200 BS6. We tell you about the pros as well as about the cons of the bike.

And more importantly we tell you if you should buy one or not?

So without wasting much time let’s start with the looks of the bike.

Bajaj Pulsar NS 200 BS6: Looks

NS 200 Bs6 Looks

Looks is the one department where Bajaj has struggled and has refused to give fresh looks to its bikes over these years.

You can see the same looks being carried forward in almost all of its bikes. Be it Pulsar 150, Pulsar 180, Pulsar 220, NS200, RS200, or even the Platina.

Yes it has tried playing with the colors over the years but the overall look and feel of the bikes have not changed much.

Bajaj got it right just once. And is now continuing with it even after so many years.

On the other hand, its competitors kept upgrading their bikes in terms of looks and features as well.

Now lets see how the Pulsar NS 200 BS6 looks and how it fairs among its rivals.

Front Looks

When you stand in front of the bike, you will notice the big head of the Pulsar NS 200, which will kind of remind you of the Transformers movie. Remember where cars and bikes could transform into ROBOTS!

You come face to face with the bike and you will feel like a Transformer machine is staring at you.

There is also a small windshield that looks like a crown sitting on the head.

And in the middle of the head is a small Bindi Like Bajaj Logo.

One more thing that you will notice is the lower part of the head that houses two small lights. It kind of looks like the head of the bike has extended beards, the same as it is  trending among men to have an extended beard. It does look quite cool and completes the Transformer’s head like look.

Another noticeable thing is the carbon fibre like finish on the front wheel fender, which kind of looks good.

And even after so many years the front of the bike still looks good overall, but it does seem outdated now and screams for a major upgrade.

Side Looks

ns 200 bs6 Side Looks

When you look at the Pulsar Ns200 from the side, the first thing that you will notice is the white body frame and the whitened wheels.

Looks are subjective, and even few people seem to like these white highlights.

ns 200 bs6 Disc and Abs

But we are not fans of these white highlights, especially the whitened wheels. It kind of gives the bike a toyish look. And they get dirty very very easily, and you will be cleaning them very often.

Another noticeable thing is the new whitened 200 sticker that sits on the extended fuel tank cowl. And below it you can see the coolant indicator.

There is a three colored engine cowl as well.

Bajaj Pulsar NS 200 BS6 Engine

Look just above the engine cowl and you will notice that the engine feels quite compactly packed and you can not see through from around the engine. And it makes you feel like the Ns 200 BS6 is powered by a much bigger engine.

Another major noticeable thing is you can not see the exhaust adjacent to the rear wheel.

Under Belly exhaust

Yes! There is an under belly exhaust on the NS 200.

You can also notice the raised rear seat, NS 200 stickers below it and two rear wheel fenders.

Overall the bike looks quite sporty from the side. But we just wish the whitened wheels could go away.

Rear Looks

Rear Looks

Come to the rear side of the bike and you are greeted by the signature Pulsar split tail lights. And we have to admit, it still looks cooler than the single units on its competitors.

Above the tails lights are the split grab handles that add to the sportiness of the bike.

The rear number plate is extended to the outside by the bridge-like structure and it looks kind of cool. You also get a number plate light that sits right above the number plate.

Overall the rear of the Pulsar NS 200 looks quite good and familiar.

And it is available in 4 COLOR options.

How does it feel to sit on the Bajaj Pulsar NS 200 BS6?

When you sit on the bike, the first thing that you will notice is the big and raised fuel tank. It kind of makes you feel like you are sitting quite low on the bike.

And when you will notice closely you will see that the fuel tank and the instrument console are almost at the same height.

Clip-on Handle Bars

When you reach out for the handle bars, you will notice that you get the clip-on handlebars on NS 200.

Now the only thing left to notice is the outdated Instrument console.

You get a three part instrument console in the Pulsar NS 200.

ns 200 bs6 Instrument Console

The left most part is divided into further two parts. The upper part houses all the indicators like the indicator for Neutral, High Beam, Turn Indicators, Check engine etc. And the lower part only has a blue colored Bajaj logo.

Then you get a big analogue tachometer in the front that also houses a small digital fuel indicator.

Then there is the right most part of the instrument console, which is all digital. It houses a time indicator, speedometer and trip meters.

You also get a separate rpm limit indicator on top of the right most part.

It may seem like the instrument console displays a plethora of information but the truth is it misses out on many features. And in fact, it does not even have a basic gear position indicator.

Overall the Pulsar NS 200 still manages to look good but it also screams for major upgrades too. We think even smaller updates in design and not just in colors can bring out a whole new bike.

Bajaj Pulsar NS 200 BS6: Exhaust Note

Now before we move further with this review let us first hear the exhaust note of the Pulsar NS200.

Did you feel like the exhaust note of the bike is a little bit familiar?

Yes! You are right, it is quite similar to the KTM bikes.

It is definitely not bassy but it sure is loud and unique.

Bajaj Pulsar NS 200 BS6: Features

Before moving on to its performance, ride and handling, let us first look at the features provided by the Pulsar NS 200.

The 200NS has the following features:

  1. It has a side stand down engine kill feature.
  2. And Yes! It has single channel ABS.
  3. Ohh! But, It has NO dual channel ABS.
  4. And Yes! It has NO slipper clutch.
  5. Obviously! It has NO LED headlights
  6. It has NO LED turn Indicators as well.
  7. Ohh! It has NO full digital instrument console.
  8. And Yes! It has NO updated looks.

  10. Surely! It has NO adjustable clutch and brake levers.

You name it and Pulsar NS 200 DOES NOT have it!

And it really makes you wonder, are we really in 2021?

Bajaj Pulsar NS 200 BS6: Engine and Performance

ns 200 bs6 Engine and performance

Performance is the one area where there is no match for the Pulsar 200 NS in its segment. In fact it is one of the most powerful bikes in its segment.

It is powered by a 199.5cc single cylinder liquid cooled engine. This is the same engine that also powers the KTM Duke 200 and KTM RC 200. But obviously in different tuning.

In NS 200 the engine produces a maximum power of 24.5PS @9750rpm and a maximum torque of 18.5Nm @8000rpm.

Since the power is produced quite high in the rev band, the bike has a sluggish low end. But it has a decent mid range and it aces in the top end performance.

The engine likes to rev hard. In fact the harder you rev it the higher it will reward you.

Below 4k rpm the bike feels like it is not even alive. But once you cross the 4k rpm mark, the bike starts to wake up.

And once the bike wakes up, it pulls cleanly all the way to the red line.

You will just enjoy revving it hard.

Little vibrations do creep in on higher rpms but they are never harsh.

The bike goes from 0-60km/hr in around 4.1 secs. And goes from 0-100km/hr in around 10.8 secs.

The bike manages to reach a top speed of around 134km/hr.

Bajaj Pulsar NS 200 BS6: Ride and Handling

NS 200 Sticker

Seating position is not so committed and you sit quite upright in the 200 NS.

So your wrist and back will be pain free even after riding it for long hours in the city or on the highway.

Also the weight of the bike is just 156 kgs, so it is very easy to maneuver in the city traffic.

However, the NS 200 seat height is around 805mm so it can be a little uncomfortable for short riders in the bumper to bumper city traffic.

But when cruising on the highway, the NS 200 BS6 feels very planted and you can cruise at triple digits speed comfortably.

Thanks to the 6th gear, the bike can comfortably cruise at around 110km/hr.

In the handling department the Pulsar NS 200 will not disappoint you either.

In fact the bike feels very agile in the corners and it gives you confidence to go faster and harder.

Overall the bike offers great city and highway rides and is a very good handler too. You will just love riding the bike in the city or on the highway.

Bajaj Pulsar NS 200 BS6: Mileage

As you will be using the bike for your daily commute and the petrol prices are increasing day by day, so the number of kilometers a bike runs on one litre of petrol becomes very important.

Everybody wants a bike that offers great performance and offers great mileage as well. But these two things often do not go hand in hand. Many times either you have to compromise on the performance of the bike or you have to compromise on the mileage of the bike.

Same is the case with the Pulsar NS 200 BS6. You get a great performance but at the cost of the mileage.

You can expect an overall mileage of around 35kmpl from the bike.

Bajaj Pulsar NS 200 Mileage: Around 35kmpl.

Bajaj Pulsar NS 200 BS6: Price

Pulsar NS 200 BS6 ex-showroom price : 1.35 lakhs approx.

Pulsar NS 200 on-road price: 1.56 lakhs approx.

Verdict

Pulsar Logo

Now comes the most important part of this review.

The main question that is bothering everybody.

“Is the Pulsar NS 200 worth buying?”

Bajaj Pulsar NS 200 was and is a performance oriented 200cc bike. Yes, it is due for a major upgrade and it does not even offer a single modern day feature.

But it still is a good looking bike and when it comes to the performance, there is no other bike in this segment and at this price point that matches the performance of the Pulsar NS 200.

So if you are someone who likes raw performance and does not care about anything else. Then for you the answer to the above question is BIG YES!

But if you can compromise a little bit (not much but just a little bit) on the performance and want all the modern day features. Then for you the answer to the above question is a BIG NO!

Bajaj was known to provide superior performance and feature rich bikes at a very reasonable price point than its competitors.

But over these years Bajaj has kind of lost it by not upgrading its bike. Because its competitors have been upgrading their bikes from time to time.

And now the Pulsar NS 200 no longer offers the most value for your money. In fact it loses out on so many basic features that you should be getting at this price point.

So if you are looking for the most value for your money and you like to make decisions based on your mind

Then you should not consider the Bajaj Pulsar NS 200 BS6.

BUT! If your heart says yes then GO FOR IT!

You should always keep the motorcycle in a secure location when you are not using it. This may mean that you will have to buy a locking box that you can lock your motorcycle into. When you are not using your motorcycle, you should keep it locked up whenever you are not using it.
