Looks
Yamaha makes some of the prettiest bikes. The first generation FZ was eye pleasing and so is the latest FZ V3. The FZ V3 looks beefier than its previous generations. Thanks to the wider fuel tank with which faux air tanks are embedded, making it look more muscular. We think the looks of Yamaha FZ V3 is somewhat inspired by Yamaha V-Max.
Yamaha FZ V3 sports a negative LCD display which offers only basic information like speedometer, tachometer, fuel meter and an odo meter. However, it misses out many other information like gear position indicator, clock time etc. We think that the design of the instrument cluster could have been better and could display other information as well.
Yamaha FZ V3 now sports LED headlights but a conventional halogen park light. And the combination of white and yellowish light does look odd. What were you thinking Yamaha? Also the overall design of the headlight panel does not look as good and it could have been better.
Unlike previous generation, the bike now comes with single seat unit. It is more wider and comfortable for both the riders. It also gets a single unit grab handle as compared to dual grab handles in previous version. The bike’s seat height is appropriate for both short and tall riders.
The tail light and indicators could have also been LED. The tail light is carried forward as it is and we think it could have been better. The trademark, a fat rear tyre is still there and as usual looks good.
The bike also gets a newly designed exhaust that suits the new design of the bike.
Engine and Performance
Yamaha FZ V3 is powered by a 149cc motor that puts out maximum power of 12.4PS and a peak torque of 13.3Nm. It is now the least powerful bike in its segment. But it has a good low and mid range performance but lacks top end performance. Good low and mid range performance makes it a very good city commuter. It is good to go till 6000-6500 RPM but after that there is no point in revving it.
What kept going for FZ in past and still keeps going is its handling and fun to drive nature. Light clutch, excellent gear box and the refinement and responsiveness of the engine still makes it fun to ride and easy to maneuver in the city.
Handle bars are set little higher in Yamaha FZ V3. And it makes the seating position more upright and comfortable. As a result you can very well take it on long routes and you will not feel tired. Cruise around 85kmph and the bike will not feel tired either.
You can expect an overall average of around 50kmpl.
Cost
Yamaha FZ V3 is priced at approximately INR 1.03 lakhs ex-showroom Delhi. And costs around INR 1.17 lakhs on-road Delhi. You can also opt for FZ-S V3 which comes with little cosmetic changes, good color options and Bluetooth connected feature. FZ-S V3 is priced INR 1.07 Lakhs ex-showroom Delhi. And costs around INR 1.22 lakhs on-road Delhi. At this price point it is one of the cheapest bike in its segment and offers a very good value for money.
